How did you become so passionate about helping people find passion and purpose in their lives?

Let me first share with you a defining moment and resulting "compelling story" that brought me to where I am today, coaching people like you on how to bring passion into their lives.

My defining moment happened in mid-2002. It was a simple question that completely changed my life. But before I tell you what that question was here is a little background.

In 2000, the company I was working for merged with another, and in the blink of an eye my life changed. The newly merged company had values that were very different from mine. I wasn't fully aware of it at the time, but I knew something felt wrong. I didn't know what... and I didn't understand why. At least, not then. Instead, day after day, I got out of bed and went to work. My inner conflict grew.

By 2002, I was very unhappy in my job. A friend of mine introduced me to a life coach. After an hour and a half of conversation, the coach asked me the one simple question that would ultimately change my life: what would I really like to be doing right now?

There began a process of trying to find out for myself what I was passionate about. I realized I wanted to help others who found themselves in a similar situation.

Since then, I have created a series of seven (7) important confidence-building steps every person needs to apply to develop a passionate life, something I believe in....passionately!

How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be an expert in coaching people towards their passion?

While I officially founded Vision Coach International in 2004, my coaching expertise stems from a vast array of academic, professional, and personal experience. You've just read about my own experience with harassment and burnout. You saw how I was able to overcome this and find my own passion, but perhaps you'd also be interested to know that I have an MBA from the John Molson School of Business and an MA in organizational development (Human Systems Intervention) from Concordia University.

Working in marketing and communications in a variety of industries – from IT to health – I understand the importance of a clear, simple message and vision. Individuals need their own personal message and vision to live productive, joyful lives.

In addition, I read countless articles and papers about job-related stress and burnout. There is a lot I could tell you about burnout. Why it happens. Who it happens to. What the effects are, in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term. But the most important thing I have learned is that it is preventable.

Who are your clients?

People just like you! I work with a wide scope of individuals and businesses.

I work with individuals who are experiencing career change and transition. I work with people who want to find happiness and fulfilment in their lives. So my clients come from all walks of life and may be of any age.

I also work with people who have been bullied at work, or who have experienced psychological harassment. My job is to help them understand that first of all, this is not an acceptable situation, and second of all, they have a choice as to whether they want to continue to be bullied or not. It's a life choice, one that takes a lot of courage. And with the proper support, it can be done.

For business, I work with both the profit and non-profit sectors, and help companies in areas of change management, stress management training, ethics, and creating and implementing corporate values that will foster a healthy work environment.

What if I don't suffer from burnout? Can I still work with you?

Yes, you can. Perhaps you just lost your job, or decided to leave of your own accord. In any case, you're in a period of transition and that, in itself, can be difficult to deal with. Any change brings with it the loss of what you had before. You need to grieve that loss just as if you were grieving the death of a dear friend or family member. Life still goes on and you need to look for work as if nothing had happened. I can accompany you through this transition and help you get back on your feet.

How are you different from other coaches?

I am, first and foremost a career coach. What makes me different is that I work extensively with people who have had some experience with stress, burnout, or loss. I am uniquely placed to understand the issues these people face on a day-to-day basis. From time to time I may use techniques that are common in life coaching (visualization, for example), or in business coaching (time management, for example). As a career coach, I use personal branding techniques that are guaranteed to help position you for that special job. My first priority is to ensure you are doing the work you love. I know from personal experience what it means to be unhappy at work. When you work with me, you not only walk away with a practical set of tools, you also develop a better understanding of yourself and your role in the world.

Why would a company want to hire you?

Companies are losing employees by the drove – and as a consequence are losing productivity. Insurance companies are doling out millions of dollars in disability claims. I can guarantee you that employees who are stressed and remaining on the job are not performing to their fullest potential. In addition, since the new law was put into effect in Quebec, the chances of an employee actually registering a claim of psychological harassment has dramatically increased. It is not a pretty picture.

As a manager, how you set the stage in the workplace matters to an employee's physical and mental health. You can be proactive in preventing mental health problems.

I offer a unique program to assist you and your employees in dealing with this too often taboo subject. We help you determine the extent of the situation at your workplace and we put together a preventative system that is right for you. The system is designed to build awareness and actively promote wellness.

More than that, I believe a company is most successful when its employees share a common set of values that are aligned with those of the company. You want people working for you to be productive and they can only be productive when they are happy in their job. The way you treat employees is important and so is having the right employees work for you, those whose values parallel yours.

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

Well I think at the outset, you have to want to help yourself. The program works best with people who are curious and willing to open up and be honest about themselves. Consider what you'll do with me to be an action learning course. You will be expected to take serious and consistent action. No excuses anymore, just a very different way of thinking and full support while you achieve this incredibly simple but exciting goal: finding pleasure in the everyday!

For what type of person is this program NOT going to work?

Please know I'm very selective in who I work with and I cherry-pick my clients, choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren't suited for this program and won't get the results for which they would have signed up for. (It wouldn't be fair to them.)

This program is NOT for those who have no desire to change or who have too many unresolved issues. You have to be committed to making a change in your life and to making a difference.

If you fall within this category, it's absolutely OKAY. We've all been in times of crisis at one point or another. Do yourself three (3) favours:

  1. Visit your doctor and get a thorough check-up.
  2. Consider seeing a therapist on a regular basis to continue raising your awareness. A good therapist will be able to help you sort through your issues and assist you in building your self-confidence.
  3. Sign up for my free newsletter. You might possibly find my anecdotes inspiring. And if not, well that's okay too.

Making a change takes a fair amount of strength and courage. The great thing is that you don't have to do it alone, but you do have to recognize those qualities in yourself.

How quickly can I expect results?

That really depends on you and how hard you want to work. It also depends on your goals. If your first priority is simply to get a job, any job, then we will spend more time up front developing the tools you need to do that...working on your strengths, writing a masterful CV, getting in the door, strengthening your interview skills, etc. And that may be all that we do together. That could take as little as a couple of months or it might take longer, depending on your readiness. To land the job of your dreams or work at what you really love might take much longer as you filter through what is really important in your life.

How will we work together and what does the program entail?

I offer three ways of working together, depending on your objectives and your resources.

The VIP program consists of four (4) sessions per month. Each session is typically 1 1/2 hours in length. In addition, we speak on the phone once a week for 15 minutes to make sure any questions or concerns are answered. You will also have access to me by email an unlimited number of times.

The Master program consists of three (3) sessions per month. Each session is 1 1/2 hours long. During the fourth week, we will speak on the phone to ensure a continuation and to cover any issues you might need to discuss. You can contact me by email an unlimited number of times.

The Scholar program consists of two (2) sessions per month. Each session is 1 1/2 hours long. You can contact me by email anytime in between our sessions.
